Ahoy, Argonauts! Are you ready to join Jason and his crew on the hunt for the Golden Fleece?  Be ready, because lots of dangers lie along the way — you could encounter horrendous Harpies, foul Dragons, fire-breathing bulls and deadly Sirens!

We want you to capture these mythical monsters in art, and submit them to the new Golden Fleece Competition. Painting, drawing, collage, photography… choose any visual medium you like to show us your interpretation of this year's theme, “mythical monsters”. You could be inspired by the story of Jason and the Argonauts, or any other monsters from Greek mythology!

Then simply take a photo or a scan of your art and submit it via the form below (younger Argonauts may need their grown ups' help to complete this application).  Entry is open until 5PM Monday 30 June 2025 — until then, keep an eye on Hellenic Museum socials for monster facts, ideas and competition updates!

The Prizes!

Prizes will be awarded to the First Place and Runner Up across three year categories: Prep to Year 3, Year 4 to 6, and Year 7 to 8.

Each First Place winner will receive a $100 Toys’R’Us voucher, and a Hellenic Museum family membership valued at $120. Each Runner Up will receive a Hellenic Museum Prize Pack and a family membership.

All winners will be invited to receive their prizes at a special awards ceremony at the Hellenic Museum, on a date to be announced.

The Rules

  • Each participant can submit one artwork. It can be in any visual medium, but must be their own original work, not containing any AI-generated or copyrighted material.

  • Group entries and video entries are not allowed.

  • Submissions must be sent through the Golden Fleece Competition webpage form (below) by the closing date of the competition. Late entries will not be considered.

For the full terms and conditions, please see here.

Judging

All entries will be judged by a panel of Hellenic museum staff members, including the education and curatorial team. Judges will be looking not just for technically skilled art, but also the following criteria:
